Luna Park and the Palais Theatre are two of Melbourne’s most beloved landmarks, attracting visitors with their rich history, iconic architecture, and vibrant atmosphere. In recent years, the City of Port Phillip embarked on an ambitious revitalisation project to transform this iconic precinct, ensuring its longevity as a cultural and recreational hub. SVC Products played a critical role in this project by supplying over 100 custom-made concrete seating modules, enhancing the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the precinct.
The Palais Theatre and Luna Park Precinct Revitalisation forms part of the council’s long-term plan to enhance key public spaces. The project aims to improve pedestrian accessibility and create new public gathering areas, while preserving the heritage character of these historic landmarks. The upgraded precinct now features new public seating, landscaping, and lighting across the pedestrian-friendly spaces, providing locals and tourists plenty of opportunity to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
SVC was engaged to manufacture and supply 100+ bespoke concrete seating modules that seamlessly integrate into the landscape. Crafted using high-quality, locally sourced precast concrete, the robust seat modules are designed to withstand continuous exposure to high pedestrian traffic, weather elements and other conditions typical of the coastal environment.
The bespoke modular seats follow a unique but consistent design theme, with a combination of straight and curved units installed strategically in various configurations around the plaza to maximise space and enhance pedestrian flow. Serving both functional and aesthetic purposes, the durable concrete seats offer visitors ample resting spots, encouraging longer visits and increased community interaction in the upgraded precinct.
The City of Port Phillip’s precinct revitalisation project has successfully cultivated a more engaging space for users, ensuring it remains a cherished part of the community for future generations. Whether waiting for a show at the Palais Theatre or spending a day at Luna Park, visitors can enjoy a leisurely time in the expansive pedestrian plaza, within the beautiful setting of the St Kilda foreshore.
