Designed by landscape architect Katherine Rekaris, the memorial garden in the surrounding parklands of Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance commemorates 70,000 Australian ex-servicewomen from the Boer War through to 1985.
The inscribed cairn is surrounded by jacaranda trees in a garden of wild native violets as well as 350 custom-made concrete violets. Each one honors 200 servicewomen and together, the concrete violets are symbolic of perpetually flowering violets to commemorate the courage and dedication of our brave servicewomen.
