Led by Melbourne Water and the Brimbank City Council, the Upper Stony Creek Transformation project seeks to redevelop a section of Stony Creek in Sunshine North, transforming it from a concrete drainage channel into a healthy, revegetated creek.

The project will incorporate the creation of a new stormwater harvesting wetland and the addition of several new walking paths and open parklands for the local community to utilise and enjoy.

SVC worked with project contractor State Plant Hire to deliver a large-format custom drainage pit, purpose-built to suit the site’s sloping conditions. The custom drainage pit acts as a flow control element, redirecting water overflow from the channel into the newly-created wetland on-site. Installation of the custom-made complementary pipe grill ensures the prevention of litter and debris from entering the pit and waterway.

Peter Higgins, Managing Director, State Plant Hire:

We’ve worked with SVC on a number of projects over the last 3-4 years and Mark (SVC Civil Sales & BDM) has been helpful in coming up with ideas for weird and wonderfully shaped pits that we’ve installed in a number of wetlands.

The pit for this project was absolutely spot-on; exactly what we’d discussed and it came up perfectly.

Landon Bailey, Project Supervisor, State Plant Hire:

This project was going to be a tricky one, which is why I emailed Mark to find out whether SVC could build the pit to a spec that Melbourne Water would be happy with.

Mark is fantastic to deal with and good to talk to. In the future, if I have another project requiring a pit that needs to be pre-poured, I’ll definitely be giving him a call.
