With support from the Federal and State Government, the Wyndham City Council invested significantly in the upgrade of an existing sporting facility in Werribee. A comprehensive $47m redevelopment transformed Eagle Stadium into an outstanding new regional sports, recreational and fitness centre in Melbourne’s west.

The mega-stadium is equipped with new multi-purpose sports courts, additional spectator seating, hundreds of new parking spaces, meeting room facilities and a state-of-the-art gym, providing excellent amenities to local athletes, sporting teams and members of the general public.

Landscape architecture firm MDGLA designed the external environment at Eagle Stadium, incorporating generous, useable spaces and considered connections that allow activity from the stadium to spill through and outside of the building. The entry plaza into the complex was given particular focus, with feature paving and expansive concrete seating used to create a welcoming, inhabitable atmosphere.

SVC’s Urban team was contracted by Watpac Construction to produce the custom concrete seat modules that characterise the Eagle Stadium frontage. Designed with a unique bow-shaped profile, the seating wraps sharply around green garden beds at intervals within the paved plaza, providing rest areas for stadium visitors and adding a modern design feature befitting the new sports complex.

A new landmark of the western suburbs, the successful Eagle Stadium redevelopment provides a modern, well-equipped home base for competition sports and fitness training to members of the Werribee community and surrounding suburbs.
