A sizeable plot of land on Neerim Road, one of Carnegie’s key arterials, has been transformed into the Carnegie Community Space.
One of four programmable open spaces available for venue hire within the City of Glen Eira, the Carnegie Community Space offers a large central lawn, sizeable gravelled spaces and a spine of concrete and timber lounge seating running through its centre. This versatile space is conducive to supporting a multitude of activities such as market days, open air festivals, music performances or day-to-day community interaction.
The northern and eastern ends of the space are lined with concrete sphere bollards, and the eastern end with a set of tapered rectangular planters to house live green verticals, creating a contrast with the large painted mural on the opposing wall.
SVC supplied project installers Ace Contractors with the precast concrete elements utilised in the build. The concrete seats, spheres and planters were all produced in a standard grey shot-blasted concrete finish at SVC’s Mordialloc premises. Some months later, the concrete spheres and planters would be redressed in vibrant, bold paints, signalling the bustling atmosphere of diverse activities that the space would soon play host to.
