Repurposing waste concrete as building blocks

The batching and mixing of concrete is a daily occurrence at SVC Products. An average of 60 cubic metres (150 tonnes) of concrete is poured each week at our batch plant.

Once produced, the wet concrete mixes are poured into moulds where they will harden and cure to form a precast concrete product. During this casting process, there is often leftover wet concrete after all moulds have been filled. Typically, this leftover wet concrete would be set aside and later disposed of as concrete waste.

The desire to reduce this concrete waste resulted in the development of an environmentally-conscious product named SVC EcoBlox. EcoBlox moulds are filled with leftover wet concrete, creating a functional product from what would otherwise become waste.

The easiest way to describe EcoBlox is to picture them as large-format, heavy concrete Lego blocks that interlock. The blocks can be assembled or stacked in a brick-type pattern and used to construct large outdoor walls or bays.

EcoBlox retaining blocks are a valuable SVC product, offering a simple solution for outdoor construction and simultaneously allowing the reduction of concrete waste.
