Victoria’s 79 local councils tend to use slightly varying products for the same application. Luckily, SVC’s diverse range of council products is likely to contain the solution you need.
Council depots are often stocked with basic infrastructure assets such as stormwater pit covers and kerb lintels. However, what contractors don’t always realise is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to the design of the products used. For instance, certain councils choose to use concrete frames and inserts for their pit covers, while others use lightweight, polymeric access covers instead.
Similarly, when it comes to kerb lintels used for roadside drainage applications, there is more than one type of lintel to suit a barrier or semi-mountable kerb profile, despite all lintels performing the same primary function of creating an entry point for road runoff into the drainage system. The differences between these kerb lintels are minimal and often design-related. Councils having separate design teams in their employ leads to products of slightly different design being specified in each council’s standard drawings.
When it comes to servicing the different infrastructure needs of all 79 Victorian municipalities, SVC can help. Operating since 1948, SVC has steadily built upon its range of precast concrete drainage and kerbing products, ever evolving to meet the changing needs of local municipalities. Multiple products to suit various council standards are kept readily available for quick and easy ordering, and SVC’s internal sales team are well equipped to help customers find the council-specific products they need.
In addition to its stormwater and kerbing products, SVC also offers catalogue and custom options for urban furniture. Precast concrete is a fantastic material for outdoor furniture in a streetscape or park setting – its robust strength properties, resistance to weather conditions and longevity in the outdoor environment makes it a low-maintenance option that presents a no-brainer for council design projects.
SVC’s Urban product offerings include concrete seating, bollards, planters and spheres – all of which have been used in previous council projects spread across Victoria. Notably, SVC bollards and planters have been used extensively in the City of Melbourne, where the weight and strength of these precast concrete items have contributed an additional function of providing pedestrian safety when installed in areas adjacent to vehicular traffic, while also beautifying the shared public space.
SVC’s Civil and Urban precast concrete products are all made locally in Mordialloc, Victoria using Australian materials. Further, a large percentage of SVC’s stormwater drainage products are now made using an eco-blend, environmentally friendly concrete, where the product composition includes recycled materials such as fly ash, slag and soft plastic waste.
