Rail Infrastructure

Compliant Products to Support New Station Construction, Stabling Yards & Level Crossing Removals

Rail Infrastructure involves the planning, design, and construction of rail networks, including tracks, sleepers, ballast, and associated on-rail systems. This includes a broad range of works such as earthworks, track laying, signalling installation, and drainage integration. Rail projects are vital for enhancing transportation efficiency, improving safety, and supporting economic development by facilitating the smooth and reliable movement of passengers and freight.

SVC’s Value on Rail Projects

Our team’s long-standing involvement in major Victorian rail infrastructure is reinforced by our capability to deliver:

  • DTP and 300LA-compliant pit, cover and grate solutions at scale
  • Custom precast manufacturing for complex civil geometries and special functions
  • Dependable supply to satisfy high-pressure program timelines
  • Products engineered for heavy-duty rail and roadway environments

SVC’s premium civil products and materials meet stringent industry standards for peace of mind. We pride ourselves on our capability to provide durable, reliable and cost-effective solutions that improve the performance and lifespan of rail infrastructure projects.

CATEGORIES

Electrical & Communications

Electrical and communications systems are critical components of modern rail infrastructure, enabling safe and efficient train operations. This includes power supply for signaling, track electrification, control systems, and communication networks that facilitate real-time monitoring and coordination. At SVC, we provide high-quality electrical and communication products designed to meet rigorous industry standards, ensuring reliable connectivity and operational safety across rail networks.

Stormwater & Drainage

Effective stormwater and drainage solutions are essential to maintaining the integrity and safety of rail infrastructure. Proper management of runoff prevents water accumulation around tracks, reducing erosion and minimising the risk of track instability. SVC offers durable drainage products and systems engineered to handle high volumes of water while complying with environmental standards, helping to safeguard rail assets and ensure uninterrupted service.

Signalling

A vital component of rail infrastructure, signalling systems control the safe and efficient flow of trains throughout the network. By managing train movements and facilitating communication between operators and control centres, they play a key role in preventing collisions. SVC provides top-quality signalling components built to comply with strict Australian standards, helping to maintain reliable operations and improve network safety.

CLIENTS WE’VE WORKED WITH

This is featured Project

“A place to celebrate, entertain, create and connect.”

The Round is the culmination of a $78m redevelopment of Whitehorse City Council’s performing arts centre – a project to revitalise the venue with modernized facilities and improved accessibility. The redevelopment aimed to enhance the overall visitor experience while providing a thriving cultural hub for the diverse creative community of Whitehorse to enjoy for generations to come.

SVC Products was proud to be involved in this significant redevelopment project, with our contribution involving the supply of 25 Cylinder bollards that were produced at our Mordialloc manufacturing premises. These bollards were crafted using a grey concrete and bluemetal mix, providing a contemporary aesthetic that harmonised with the modern design and bold brick palette of the redeveloped centre.

Products For Rail Infrastructure

PROD_SolidWallPits-1

Solid Wall Pits

SVC manufactures a wide range of solid wall precast concrete pits in multiple standard sizes, which are commonly used in electrical or communications cabling applications.
PROD_Cabling-Pit

Custom Cabling Pits

Outside the standard range of solid wall pits, SVC can also offer custom-made, large-format cabling pits and covers suited for use in electrical, communications and data applications.

Frequently asked questions

Are SVC’s rail foundations approved by the relevant rail authorities?

Yes, precast concrete rail foundations by SVC are manufactured to comply with the standards and approved designs of the relevant rail network operators, such as Metro Trains Melbourne and the Public Transport Corporation, ensuring compliant application in their rail corridors.

What kind of equipment are these foundations used for?

SVC's range of concrete railway foundations cater to a wide range of rail applications. They are used to provide a solid base for vital trackside equipment, including signal masts, axle counters, boom barriers, electrical control cabinets and various other products and equipment that require a stable, strong footing.

Why use a precast foundation in the rail corridor?

Opting to install precast concrete foundations offers significant advantages in quality control, speed of installation and site safety in comparison with pouring concrete on-site. As products are delivered to site ready for immediate installation, construction times are drastically reduced, which is critical when working within short, pre-approved track closure times. Another benefit is the avoidance of logistical and site storage issues relating to on-site concrete delivery and in-situ pours. In contrast, precast rail foundations are stored safely offsite, minimising disruption to onsite works, and delivered only when the site is ready for installation.

Are multi-part covers watertight?

Typically, our standard multi-part covers are gas-tight and also considered water-tight. For sensitive applications specifically requiring a higher degree of water or gas tightness, specialised sealed designs can be engineered. Please specify this requirement at the time of enquiry.

What is the largest pit opening that can be covered with a multi-part cover?

Multi-part access covers are highly configurable and can be designed to span many metres. Based on our current capabilities, SVC can produce multi-part covers to suit a maximum length of 6100mm and a maximum span of 3250mm.

How does a multi-part access system work?

The system uses a fixed outer frame and removable support beams that lock into position. Smaller, individual cover panels are then placed on the beams to complete the surface, allowing sequential removal.

Do you supply covers to suit cabling pits?

Yes, we provide a complete product solution incorporating a cabling pit and compatible cover.

Typically, cabling pits use concrete-encased ductile iron covers in Load Class B or D, which allows airtight protection. For larger-format, custom-made cabling pits, SVC can construct a multi-part cover in the required load class to ensure a fully integrated and compliant installation.

What information do I need for a custom cabling pit quote?

Please provide engineering drawings with internal dimensions, wall thickness, and the precise size, number, and location of all required conduit entries. Remember to specify the required access cover load class.

Can custom cabling pits be made to specific rail authority standards?

Yes. SVC has extensive experience manufacturing custom cabling pits and covers applicable for use in major rail projects across Australia.

We can build to the exact project specifications (i.e. 300LA, CAR) required for rail and transport infrastructure. Please consult your SVC representative to discuss your unique project needs.
