VicRoads Grates

Fully Compliant Grates for Victorian Road Drainage Systems

Description

SVC’s range of VicRoads Grates are manufactured in strict accordance with the standards required for all Victorian road and transport infrastructure projects. They solve the critical challenge of ensuring 100% compliance with current Department of Transport (VicRoads) drawings, eliminating the risk of using non-conforming products.

These heavy-duty grates are engineered to withstand constant highway traffic and provide efficient, reliable stormwater removal from road surfaces. They are an essential component of the approved VicRoads drainage system, designed to work seamlessly with SVC VicRoads pits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are VicRoads grates typically made from?

Depending on the load class required, SVC's VicRoads grates are typically made from heavy-duty galvanized mild steel or robust ductile iron - both options provide maximum durability for Load Class D or E applications.

SVC can also supply VicRoads grates pre-encased in high-strength precast concrete, allowing efficient installation and time savings on site.

How do I know which grate to order for my VicRoads pit?

Typically, your project plans will specify a VicRoads Standard Drawing reference for the required pit and cover application. Otherwise, other factors that impact the type of grate required are the pit dimensions, pit type (side entry or junction) and load class rating required. The SVC team can assist with providing the correct SVC VicRoads products based on these factors, ensuring you achieve project compliance.

Are SVC’s VicRoads grates officially approved by the Department of Transport?

All access covers, grates and manhole covers used in new DTP infrastructure projects must have preapprovals for inclusion in BTN 033. This confirms that they have passed the required NATA testing criteria and are accepted for use by the Department of Transport.

All SVC VicRoads (DTP) grates relating to BTN 033 applications have received DTP approval, providing peace of mind regarding product conformance and approval for use.

What does the “clear opening” measurement mean?

The clear opening refers to the size of the open space or void beneath a cover or grate, and typically matches the internal size of the pit chamber below. It is the most critical dimension when ordering pit covers.

Access covers and grates are usually larger than the clear opening size in order to sufficiently cover the pit beneath. It is important to note that any dimensions in the product descriptions typically refer to the nominal clear opening, not the external dimensions of the cover or grate itself. For specific product dimensions, SVC can provide technical datasheets or product drawings for accuracy.
