Frequently asked questions

How can I prevent the MC2 Multi-Cell unit from blockages?

When properly installed, the MC2 Multi-Cell is designed to be a maintenance-free, 'set and forget' product that is buried underground. Silt and small debris particles will generally pass through the unit.

To ensure no blockages of the internal orifices, it is essential to install grates on any pits receiving surface stormwater, to prevent the entry of any large litter or debris into the MC2 Multi-Cell.

What covers are available for dual chamber pits?

SVC offers a two-part galvanised steel cover compatible with our 1200x600 and 1200x900 Dual Chamber Pits. One side is a forgebar grate to be placed over the inlet chamber; the other side is the same forgebar grating covered by a 3mm solid chequer plate, to be oriented over the outlet chamber. The grate and cover combination is housed within a steel frame with tie bars to support encasement in concrete.

DCP covers are available in either Class B or Class C load ratings as per AS 3996:2019.

How do you install EcoBlox and RetainaBlox?

EcoBlox and RetainaBlox offer a simple, no-fuss solution allowing contractors to quickly and easily construct robust outdoor walls. Their interlocking design means that they can be lifted and stacked onto each other in various configurations, using the central lifting anchor on the top face. Blocks can be stacked in a stretcher bond pattern (similar to traditional brickwork) for increased resistance to shear forces. Once stacked, the large-format blocks are held together by gravity and their sheer weight (500-1000kg) - there is no need for mortar or any adhesive products to join the blocks together.

What can EcoBlox and RetainaBlox be used for?

These large-format, high-strength concrete blocks are most commonly used to build gravity-based retaining walls for landscaping and civil projects. They may also be used for creating outdoor storage bays, flood barriers, and for erosion control along waterways. Weighing 1 tonne for each fullsize unit, EcoBlox and RetainaBlox may also be used as weighted ballast blocks in applications where large, heavy weighted blocks are required.

How is a property inlet installed?

The precast block is installed flush with the finished ground level directly above the underground connection point, providing a permanent and visible reference point for the life of the property.

Are these required by the local council?

Many councils and water authorities require property inlets to be installed as part of a new subdivision's construction, as it provides a clear and consistent method for marking these important assets.

What exactly does a property inlet mark?

It typically marks the 'tapping' or connection point where a property's private sewer or stormwater drain connects to the council or water authority's main line, usually at the property boundary.

Where are inspection points typically located?

They are often installed at the property boundary where a private drain connects to the main, or at regular intervals along a pipeline to facilitate maintenance and troubleshooting.

What is the difference between an inspection point and a manhole?

An inspection point is much smaller and is not designed for a person to enter. It simply provides a small opening at the surface to allow tools to be inserted into the pipeline.

What is an inspection point used for?

It's a small chamber that provides direct access to an underground sewer or stormwater pipe, allowing workers to insert a camera for inspection or a mechanical rod to clear a blockage.

How do I use trench grates or channel sets to create a long run of trench drain?

SVC's trench grates and trench channel sets have a simple, modular design that allows long linear drainage channels to be created. Simply install the trench grating frames or channels end-to-end to create the desired length, then backfill or pour concrete around the frames to set them into place. Finally, the 1m grate segments are bolted down into the steel frames to complete the system.

What is a trench drain used for?

Trench drains are used to intercept and collect surface water over a long, continuous line, as opposed to at a singular point. The water is captured and diverted into the underground drainage system, avoiding water pooling at the ground level.

Common drainage trench applications include low points in front of garage doors, across large paved areas, at the base of retaining walls, around carparks or at the entry to commercial buildings.
