SVC’s range of VicRoads Pit Covers are designed and produced to the exact standards required for use on all Victorian road and transport infrastructure projects.

SVC has worked closely with the Department of Transport & Planning to ensure our VicRoads products are compliant and fit-for-purpose. They solve the critical need for durable, safe access covers that align perfectly with VicRoads concrete pits and meet the criteria of VicRoads Standard Drawings specifications, providing customers with reliability and peace of mind regarding product compliance, performance and longevity.

Opting for industry-compliant VicRoads covers eliminates the significant risk of non-conformance, ensuring project acceptance and the long-term safety of the asset. Frequently Asked Questions

Are both concrete and cast iron VicRoads covers available?

Yes, SVC's VicRoads pit cover offering includes options made from precast concrete or ductile (cast) iron. The material selection depends on the specific VicRoads standard or specification relevant to the project, which is generally dependent on pit size, pit type and load rating requirements.

SVC's dedicated team can assist customers with the supply of the appropriate cover, whether it be precast concrete or ductile iron, to match the required design, ensuring product conformance and project compliance with DTP standards.

How do I know which cover is required for a VicRoads pit?

Typically, your project plans will specify a VicRoads Standard Drawing reference for the required pit and cover application. Otherwise, other factors that impact the type of cover required are the pit dimensions, pit type (side entry or junction) and load class rating required. The SVC team can assist with providing the correct SVC VicRoads products based on these factors, ensuring you achieve project compliance.

Are SVC’s VicRoads covers officially approved by the Department of Transport?

All access covers, grates and manhole covers used in new DTP infrastructure projects must have preapprovals for inclusion in BTN 033.

All SVC VicRoads (DTP) covers relating to BTN 033 applications have received DTP approval, providing peace of mind regarding product conformance and approval for use.

Note: SVC's precast concrete frames and round concrete insert (codes 14.221, 14.223, 16.202, 16.204 and 14.376) are excluded from the BTN 033. These covers are only approved for use to replace existing assets in a like-for-like application.
