Trade Waste Pits & Risers

Precast Units for Filtration of Commercial and Industrial Wastewater

Description

SVC Trade Waste Pits are a range of purpose-built, self-contained precast concrete units designed for the treatment of commercial and industrial wastewater. They solve the critical problem of removing harmful substances like grease, oil, and solids from wastewater before it enters the main sewer system.

SVC’s Trade Waste range includes varying options such as grease traps, petrol and oil interceptors, cooling and straining pits, and neutralising tanks, all designed to meet stringent water authority regulations. Using precast risers, these pits can be easily adjusted to the required depth on-site, providing a robust, reliable, and compliant trade waste solution.

SVC also supplied Class B and Class D trade waste covers to complement the trade waste pit range – these are made using high-strength, circular ductile iron inserts which are encased and infilled in robust precast concrete. The covers are air-tight and water-tight, ensuring no escape of wastewater or gases into the surrounding environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

When would I need to use precast pit risers?

Precast pit risers offer a simple solution to adjust the final height of a stormwater, cabling or trade waste pit to achieve the required pit depth, saving time in comparison to getting a custom height made to order.

Pit riser walls include a slight protrusion at the base, allowing them to fit snugly into the pit wall rebate when they are stacked on top of a compatible pit base.

What is the difference between a grease trap and an interceptor pit?

A grease trap is specifically for the collection and filtration of wastewater containing food waste, discharged from industrial and commercial kitchens. An interceptor pit is a more general term and can be used to refer to applications requiring the capture and filtration of petrol, oil, or other solids in a workshop environment.

What is a trade waste pit used for?

Trade waste pits are used by businesses like restaurants, factories, petrol stations or mechanical workshops - any application that results in the discharge of dirty wastewater.

Trade waste pits are fully-contained precast units with the ability to capture and trap substances such as grease, oil, lint or other solids, preventing them from entering and contaminating the main sewerage network.

What equipment is required for lifting this product?

It is crucial that all products are lifted using the appropriate lifting tools and techniques to ensure safe transportation and handling. Due to the sheer weight of precast concrete products, any product failure or failure of incorrect lifting equipment poses a high risk to people nearby.

SVC incorporates steel lifting anchors into our precast concrete products, which are compatible with either 1.3T, 2.5T or 5.0 lifting clutches (depending on product weight). Lifting clutches must be connected to the appropriately load-rated lifting chains. All clutches are available to purchase from SVC.

Note: Some SVC pit products may still include lifting holes, which are compatible with 1.0T lifting hooks. Customers must not use these holes to thread chains through for lifting; this is an incorrect technique and is very dangerous as it creates a high chance of pit wall breakage due to the stress from the chain.
