Off Road Covers

LIGHTWEIGHT COVERS FOR DOMESTIC & COMMERCIAL USE

Description

Off Road Covers by SVC Civil offer a simple, efficient solution for small drainage and access pits used in domestic, industrial or commercial applications.

Consisting of a lightweight polymeric insert bolted into a robust galvanised steel frame, the Off Road Cover offers a much lighter option than the alternative cover solutions such as precast concrete or cast iron. Its lightweight construction allows for lifting by hand, making installation and maintenance much more accessible.

The galvanised steel frame is robust and easy to encase into concrete. The steel frames are sized to fit perfectly into SVC’s existing range of 300×300, 450×450 and 600×600 stock pits.

Off Road Covers are designed strictly for use behind-kerb, and should not be used in roadside applications. With a load rating that is equivalent to Class B in the Australian Standard AS 3996:2019, Off Road Covers provide great value for money and are suitable for installation in driveways, where they can withstand slow-moving traffic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Off Road Covers custom-made?

Due to the simplicity of our Off Road Cover solution, they are designed as a stock off-shelf solution. SVC maintains high volumes of Off Road Covers in sizes compatible with our 300x300 poly pits, 450x450 and 600x600 precast pits.

Unfortunately, Off Road Covers are not available as a customisable cover solution.

Where would I typically use an Off Road Cover?

SVC's Off Road Covers are designed as a no-fuss, simple cover solution for small pits. They are easy to implement in backyards, nature strips, business parks and any domestic or commercial project that requires a solid pit cover that is lightweight and easy to access.

It is important to note that Off Road Covers are only load-rated to Class B as per AS 3996:2019; they are able to withstand the loading of slow-moving traffic only, and should not be used in applications requiring Class C or higher loading.

What is the difference between a highway cover and an off-road cover?

Off Road Covers (Class B) are designed to withstand slow-moving domestic traffic only, and are suitable for use in driveways or garden areas. They are not designed for road use and should not be installed adjacent to heavy traffic.

In contrast, highway covers or covers suited for road use are typically rated Class C, D or higher, depending on their specific application. SVC offers ductile iron covers and VicRoads covers in Class C and D as part of our standard range. We can also supply Class E, F or G covers on a made-to-order basis, depending on specific project requirements.

What does the “clear opening” measurement mean?

The clear opening refers to the size of the open space or void beneath a cover or grate, and typically matches the internal size of the pit chamber below. It is the most critical dimension when ordering pit covers.

Access covers and grates are usually larger than the clear opening size in order to sufficiently cover the pit beneath. It is important to note that any dimensions in the product descriptions typically refer to the nominal clear opening, not the external dimensions of the cover or grate itself. For specific product dimensions, SVC can provide technical datasheets or product drawings for accuracy.
