GridLite Evo Lightweight Covers

LIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION FOR EASY HANDLING AND INSTALLATION

Description

SVC GridLite Evo covers are a modern solution that replaces traditional, heavier access covers made out of precast concrete or cast iron.

Engineered from a high-strength, lightweight polymeric composite material, GridLite Evo covers greatly reduce the risk of manual handling injuries for maintenance crews, while maintaining the robustness and structural integrity of a Class B load-rated cover. Their ergonomic design allows for safe, single-handed lifting, making them an ideal solution for pits that require frequent access.

All GridLite Evo covers feature a raised graphic pattern that contributes to the slip resistance of the surface, reducing the risk of pedestrian slips or trips. Rectangular Evo inserts are supplied within a robust galvanised steel frame, with options available for junction or side entry pits. The circular Evo insert is supplied on its own, and is designed to sit inside a concrete frame.

Recommended for local government, commercial and residential applications where a Class B load rating is sufficient, GridLite Evo covers provide a safe, durable alternative to cast iron and concrete covers, ensuring the long-term wellbeing of maintenance and field staff.

Frequently Asked Questions

What load class do I need for my driveway?

For a standard residential driveway, a Class B rated grate or cover is sufficient, as Class B loading is suitable for slow-moving domestic traffic.

For commercial driveways or areas with truck traffic, a heavy-duty Class D grate or ductile iron cover is required for safety and compliance.

What does the “clear opening” measurement mean?

The clear opening refers to the size of the open space or void beneath a cover or grate, and typically matches the internal size of the pit chamber below. It is the most critical dimension when ordering pit covers.

Access covers and grates are usually larger than the clear opening size in order to sufficiently cover the pit beneath. It is important to note that any dimensions in the product descriptions typically refer to the nominal clear opening, not the external dimensions of the cover or grate itself. For specific product dimensions, SVC can provide technical datasheets or product drawings for accuracy.

Are locking options available to prevent unauthorised access?

Yes, all GridLite Evo covers are designed to incorporate a secure locking feature. This prevents unauthorised access to sensitive underground services, making them ideal for installation in public areas. Compatible GridLite Evo keys are available to purchase from SVC.

What load classes are GridLite Evo covers available in?

Standard GridLite Evo covers for junction pits and side entry pits are available in Class B load ratings, as specified in Australian Standard AS 3996:2019. This makes them perfect for installation in footpaths, nature strips, garden beds and other areas with occasional light vehicle traffic.

SVC also offers a range of VicRoads covers that are load-rated to Class C; these covers consist of a precast concrete frame with a GridLite Evo circular insert. For these VicRoads covers, both the precast frame and the circular Evo insert have the Class C load rating.

How much lighter is a GridLite Evo cover than a traditional one?

A GridLite Evo composite cover can be up to 60% lighter than a comparable cast iron or concrete cover, which is the key to making it significantly easier and safer for one person to handle.
