Catch Pits

AN EFFICIENT, EASY-INSTALL PRECAST SOLUTION FOR CAPTURING ROAD RUNOFF

Description

SVC Catch Pits provide a simple, effective solution for the capturing of stormwater runoff from the road surface. They are a component of SVC’s Grated Catch Pit System, which was developed to simplify the diversion of road rainwater into stormwater pits located behind the kerb.

The Grated Catch Pit System replicates the functionality of a side entry pit, and is accepted as part of the EDCM (Engineering Design and Construction Manual) for subdivision in growth areas. Instead of requiring a kerb lintel and side entry pit to be installed at the kerb, the design involves installation of a catch pit within the kerb channel, placed underneath a B2, SM2 or SM2 modified kerb grate which is pre-encased or formed in concrete to match the appropriate kerbing profile.

Stormwater is captured via the kerb grate and moves into the catch pit, which is easily connected via pipe to a junction pit located anywhere within the nature strip. This system creates a neat, consistent finish with grated catch pits placed at regular intervals in the kerbing channel. The system also provides design flexibility in the placement of junction pits behind the kerb.

Catch pits can capture and retain sediment, litter, and gross pollutants, helping to prevent blockages in downstream pipes and protecting the health of our natural waterways. These robust products are ideal for projects such as new residential and industrial estates, providing a reliable, long-term solution for roadside stormwater drainage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are catch pits available in different sizes to suit my project?

No, SVC catch pits are designed in a single size with nominal internal dimensions of 900 x 400 x 300mm. Our catch pits are specifically designed to sit beneath our encased kerb grates in the kerbside drainage channel. Encased kerb grates are available in B2, SM2 or SM2 modified kerb profiles.

How does a catch pit help with council compliance?

SVC catch pits are an individual component of the Grated Catch Pit System, which is widely accepted as an EDCM (Engineering Design and Construction Manual) standard, enabling its use in new residential and industrial subdivision projects in developing areas. It is also applicable for use in local municipalities in narrow roads where there is not enough space for a regular side entry pit and kerb lintel configuration.

Contractors should always check with the local governing authority to ensure that the Grated Catch Pit System is approved for use.

What type of grate is used with an SVC Catch Pit?

Our catch pits are designed to be paired with heavy-duty galvanized steel kerb grates, which are available separately in raw or concrete-encased formats. Kerb grates are available to suit B2, SM2 and SM2 modified kerb profiles.
