SVC Catch Pits provide a simple, effective solution for the capturing of stormwater runoff from the road surface. They are a component of SVC’s Grated Catch Pit System, which was developed to simplify the diversion of road rainwater into stormwater pits located behind the kerb.
The Grated Catch Pit System replicates the functionality of a side entry pit, and is accepted as part of the EDCM (Engineering Design and Construction Manual) for subdivision in growth areas. Instead of requiring a kerb lintel and side entry pit to be installed at the kerb, the design involves installation of a catch pit within the kerb channel, placed underneath a B2, SM2 or SM2 modified kerb grate which is pre-encased or formed in concrete to match the appropriate kerbing profile.
Stormwater is captured via the kerb grate and moves into the catch pit, which is easily connected via pipe to a junction pit located anywhere within the nature strip. This system creates a neat, consistent finish with grated catch pits placed at regular intervals in the kerbing channel. The system also provides design flexibility in the placement of junction pits behind the kerb.
Catch pits can capture and retain sediment, litter, and gross pollutants, helping to prevent blockages in downstream pipes and protecting the health of our natural waterways. These robust products are ideal for projects such as new residential and industrial estates, providing a reliable, long-term solution for roadside stormwater drainage.
