The City of Melbourne, the Victorian Government and the University of Melbourne joined forces on a detailed master plan to transform University Square into a 21st century park. One of Carlton’s oldest and most loved public squares, Uni Square’s recently completed upgrade has seen the 19th-century space transition into a modern, engaging landscape that responds to the needs of its changing environment.

SVC was commissioned to produce several bespoke concrete seating modules and stair units to bridge the level gap between the footpath and raised garden bed. The units were manufactured in exposed aggregate concrete and finished with a honed concrete surface texture that is smooth to the touch.

For this project, slip resistance testing was carried out to ensure that the concrete stair units achieved the highest possible slip rating for safe pedestrian use.
