Trench Grates

Modular Linear Drainage for Continuous Water Removal

Description

SVC Trench Grates and Trench Channel Sets provide a reliable modular solution for effective linear surface drainage. They are designed to efficiently capture stormwater along a continuous line, such as across wide driveways, carparks, or in front of commercial building entrances.

The trench grating system consists of long steel brackets in 2m or 3m lengths, compatible with bolt-down trench grates in 1m lengths. The steel frames have extended flat bars that are designed to be incorporated into concrete, allowing contractors to create a seamless drainage trench of any length.

This versatile solution is easy to install and provides a great way to prevent water pooling in pedestrian areas, as surface rainwater is captured and diverted away from the ground surface, into the underground drainage system.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use trench grates or channel sets to create a long run of trench drain?

SVC's trench grates and trench channel sets have a simple, modular design that allows long linear drainage channels to be created. Simply install the trench grating frames or channels end-to-end to create the desired length, then backfill or pour concrete around the frames to set them into place. Finally, the 1m grate segments are bolted down into the steel frames to complete the system.

What is a trench drain used for?

Trench drains are used to intercept and collect surface water over a long, continuous line, as opposed to at a singular point. The water is captured and diverted into the underground drainage system, avoiding water pooling at the ground level.

Common drainage trench applications include low points in front of garage doors, across large paved areas, at the base of retaining walls, around carparks or at the entry to commercial buildings.

Are the openings in SVC’s stormwater grates safe for high-heeled shoes?

In general, the standard forgebar or weaved pattern in SVC's stormwater grating range is rated as bike-safe, meaning bicycle or wheelchair wheels can safely travel over the grate surface without getting caught or stuck. The grate apertures (openings) of bike-safe grating designs are typically too large to safely accommodate high-heeled shoes such as those with a stiletto heel.

In certain applications, pedestrian areas may specify "heel-safe" or "heelproof" grates, which have smaller openings to prevent high heels from getting caught. Out of SVC's stormwater grate offerings, only our Pedestrian-Safe Grates are classed as "heel-safe" and are suitable for high-heeled shoes.
