Solid Wall Pits

FOR ELECTRICAL, COMMUNICATIONS & DATA

Description

When it comes to protecting critical civil infrastructure, you need an uncompromising, high-performance solution. SVC offers a comprehensive range of precast solid wall pits designed specifically for tier-one commercial and civil construction projects where structural integrity is a priority.

MAXIMUM STRENGTH WITHOUT KNOCKOUTS

Solid wall pits are commonly used for the safe housing of cables and conduits in electrical, communications or data applications. As the name suggests, solid wall pits do not have any knockouts nor penetrations on their four walls. These rugged precast concrete pits without knockouts offer maximum resistance against shifting ground and heavy surface loads, making them ideal for high-density public or industrial environments.

FLEXIBLE STANDARD SIZING AND ON-SITE MODIFICATION

SVC stocks a standard range of solid wall pits in multiple sizes, ranging in depth from 600mm to 1500mm. Pits deeper than 1m include pre-installed step irons for convenience. SVC’s solid wall electrical pits are designed to provide a blank canvas that can be core-drilled precisely on-site to match your exact conduit layout, offering a more robust alternative to standard stock pits that have knockout sections in the walls. For highly complex networks requiring multi-conduit configurations that have bellmouths pre-drilled into the pits, you can also explore our specialised custom cabling pits.

Solid wall pits in sizes up to 1500×1500 are compatible with standard pit risers, allowing easy pit extension without the need for customisation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these solid wall pits compatible with standard pit risers?

Yes, our standard size solid wall pits are available in sizes up to 1500x1500mm, matching our standard riser range well. When constructing deep precast pits with step irons, risers can be stacked sequentially while maintaining full alignment with the pre-installed step irons.

Can solid wall pits be modified on-site for pipe or conduit entry?

Yes, they can easily be core-drilled on-site to your exact height and angle requirements, making them highly adaptable for a range of uses.

What is the main difference between a solid wall pit and a standard stock pit?

The main difference is the absence of pre-formed knockouts in the pit walls. Precast solid wall pits provide a completely blank canvas for custom on-site core drilling, whereas stock pits have pre-determined knockout windows.

Do you supply covers to suit these electrical pits?

Yes. We manufacture and supply a comprehensive selection of load-rated access covers and grates designed to integrate seamlessly with our solid wall cabling pits.

How do solid wall pits compare to pits with knockouts?

Unlike standard pits with thin, breakable concrete knockouts, solid wall electrical pits offer uniform, continuous structural strength. This makes precast concrete solid wall pits for electrical cabling a lot more resilient against extreme lateral ground pressure.

When would I need to use precast pit risers?

Precast pit risers offer a simple solution for adjusting the final height of a stormwater, cabling, or trade waste pit to meet the required pit depth, saving time compared to ordering a custom height. They are ideal when you need to increase the depth of your standard size solid wall pits to align perfectly with a newly finished surface level, eliminating the need to pour extra concrete on-site.

Pit riser walls include a slight protrusion at the base, allowing them to fit snugly into the pit wall rebate when they are stacked on top of a compatible pit base.

What equipment is required for lifting this product?

Since heavy-duty concrete utility pits are robust and heavy, it is crucial that all products are lifted using the appropriate lifting tools and techniques to ensure safe transportation and handling. Due to the sheer weight of precast concrete products, any product failure or improper lifting equipment poses a high risk to people nearby.

SVC incorporates steel lifting anchors into our precast concrete products, which are compatible with either 1.3T, 2.5T or 5.0 lifting clutches (depending on product weight). Lifting clutches must be connected to the appropriately load-rated lifting chains. All clutches are available to purchase from SVC.

Note: Some SVC pit products may still include lifting holes, which are compatible with 1.0T lifting hooks. Customers must not use these holes to thread chains through for lifting; this is an incorrect technique and is very dangerous, as it greatly increases the risk of pit wall breakage from chain-induced stress.
